History
Mariners Hill is a large artificial mound of earth formed from silt dredged from the channel and used as a harbour lookout to watch shipping from the medieval period. In the middle ages Blakeney was a busy port, but the gradual silting up of the harbour led to its decline. The mound postdates the Guildhall which is opposite the property. Built in 1350 it is the surviving basement of a medieval merchants house.
